Flickering Shadows is the second Main Quest in the Battahl region in Dragon's Dogma 2. Having arrived in Bakbattahl, you now seek out a man named Ambrosius who works in the Forbidden Magick Lab.

Time to enter Bakbattahl and see what we can learn about the godsway. As you approach the city gate, the Pathfinder will appear again and remind you to visit the Forbidden Magick Research Laboratory where the godsway was made. View the Bakbattahl intro cutscene, then its time to explore the city.

Avoid the overpriced expensive Inn near the city entrance and instead use the cheaper one in the southeast corner. On your way to the cheaper Inn you will be stopped by a couple NPCs with sidequests for you along the way, most notably by a group of soldiers near the Tavern who are mad that you are traveling with Pawns and challenge you to a duel. A bystander named Raghnall will step in and tell the soldiers to fight honorably, in a one-on-one battle instead.

Defeat the enemy soldier in a fair fight to complete the side quest Welcome to Battahl, earning you 8500 gold, 2800 xp, and a Fruit Wine (hold onto this wine, you will want it much later for a quest). Use the Inn storage, visit the vocation guild, then check out the weapon and armor stores which have some major gear upgrades if you have the gold for them.

When you are ready to progress the story, check your map and exit Bakbattahl via the road on the north side of the dye fields. Follow this path all the way down to the beach, where you will encounter some rocky Saurians. Their spiny skin deflects pretty much any attack, but their tails are still their weak point so make sure you attack from the back.

As you make your way across the beach there is a high chance the Griffin will fly overhead. If you move quick and get on with the quest you can avoid his gaze, but if you stand around and watch him he will likely notice you and swoop in to attack. Feel free to seek him out if you are looking to earn some extra xp.

Follow the quest marker over to the far side of the beach where you will see a group of researchers looking around. You will notice some glowing stones in the shallow waters, Small Blue Crystal Shards. Walk around and collect as many shards as you can, then approach the researcher in the purple robe in the middle of the quest marked area.

This is Ambrosius, and he will ask if you have found any of the Small Blue Crystal Shards. Hand one over and he will tell you that these shards are the substance that make up the godsway, but these pieces are too small to be of use. He suggests you seek out an oracle or The Dragonforged who may have more info, and points you to a small cave to the north.

Follow the quest marker to the cave and head inside. Inside you will see a Riftstone and a split in the path. Go into the tunnel on the left to reach the Bay Wayside Shrine where The Dragonforged is located. You will also find 5 Wyrmslife Crystals, and a Simple Rift Incense here, so grab those before you speak to him.

The Dragonforged is an important quest NPC, but has other functions. He sells you rare items like Portcrystals and Arrows of Unmaking in exchange for Wyrmslife Crystals (WLC), which are dropped by dragons. He can also upgrade your equipment with Wyrmsfire, which halves the weight of the gear and makes it more effective. We probably don’t have much WLC at the moment, but keep him in mind for later.

For now just ask him about the godsway and listen to his story. He will tell you he was visited by Phaseus before you. He will also tell you he has heard there was a dragon sighting in Harve Village. We will have a reason to do this soon which is good, because fighting this dragon leads you to the Mystic Spearhand vocation.

Check your map and you will see another quest marker somewhere in the middle of the Battahl wilderness. This is location of the other NPC Ambrosius told you to seek out, the oracle. Make your way back to Bakbattahl and hit the inn and storage, then set out for the oracles hideout. Following the main road, it should only take about ten minutes to get there but there is always a small chance you run into some distractions.

For example, I ran into two armored Cyclops on my way out of the city. If you encounter these types of Cyclops, just know their weak spot is still their head and eyeball but you will need to strip them of their armor before you can climb onto them. You can do this by climbing to a spot near the armor, then attacking until it breaks off. Good experience!

Reach the quest marker to discover the Reverent Shrine where the oracle is located. Ask her about the secret to the godsway. She will tell you to return to Harve Village and find a dragon-forged who is living there.

Once you are done talking to her, take a second to explore the Reverent Shrine before opening your inventory and using a Ferrystone to teleport to Harve Village.

You will immediately be stopped by the Rivage Elder who says he has a story to tell you. He will tell you there is a sunken castle hidden in the waters just off the coast of Harve. He says there is a godlike ruler who still lives there. As soon as he ends his story, a cutscene will begin showing a giant castle emerging from the water. When the scene ends a soldier will come running to tell you that a new path has opened up in the Stormwind Cave.

This completes the Flickering Shadows quest, and you are rewarded 25,000 gold and 3200 xp. You will then receive your next quest, Convergence.
